About MaxGallows

Hi. I’m Max. I Make Weird Things.

MaxGallows is a one-person operation run out of my basement workshop, which sounds considerably more respectable than basement dungeon full of printers, tools, plastic bricks, prototypes, and tiny monuments to poor impulse control.

I design things for collectors, desks, shelves, pegboards, plants, and other places that clearly needed more tiny plastic people on them.

Minifigure displays. Desk organizers. BrickHeadz stands. SKÅDIS accessories. Vases. Bookends. Phone stands. Garden nonsense. Occasionally something that defies a useful category entirely.

If you’ve ever looked at an empty patch of desk and thought, “This could probably hold a LEGO® minifigure,” you are among friends.

Some less than helpful coworkers

How Did This Happen?

I like making things.

Unfortunately, I also have the kind of brain that looks at perfectly ordinary objects and immediately starts wondering how they could be stranger, more useful, or equipped with a place to display a minifigure.

Eventually the basement started filling up with prototypes.

Some were useful. Some were ridiculous. Some were useful because they were ridiculous.

So I started MaxGallows.

The basic idea has stayed pretty simple: make interesting things that I would actually want to own, solve oddly specific problems, and avoid producing the same generic stuff you can already find in twelve thousand other stores.

If an idea makes me say, “Well, that’s stupid. I love it.” there is a decent chance it ends up here.

Max Gallows's Dungeon Workshop

Made in the Basement Dungeon

MaxGallows is not a giant company pretending to be a little shop.

It is actually a little shop.

There are no warehouses full of finished MaxGallows products waiting for somebody to scan a barcode. Most items are made to order right here in the basement dungeon.

And yes, there are machines involved. Quite a few of them, actually. I design the products, run the equipment, test prototypes, make revisions, inspect the finished pieces, pack the orders, answer the messages, take the photos, maintain the website, and occasionally stare accusingly at a printer that has decided to make its problems my problems.

By the time something appears in the store, it has usually gone through several versions and at least one moment where I muttered something unprintable at it.

Built for Collectors, Not Just Collections

A lot of MaxGallows started with LEGO® minifigures because I wanted better ways to actually use and display the collections people already have.

Not just another shelf.

A desk organizer with minifigures.

A vase with minifigures.

A business card holder with minifigures.

A phone stand with minifigures.

Displays for walls, windows, SKÅDIS boards, desks, plants, and whatever other surface I can get away with attaching them to.

That same philosophy has spread into the rest of the shop. I like products that are functional but still have some personality. Your desk can hold your stuff without looking like it was furnished by an office supply catalog.

Proudly Weird. Dangerously Organized.

That line pretty much sums up MaxGallows.

Proudly weird means I am allowed to make the odd idea.

Dangerously organized means I will then spend an unreasonable amount of time making sure the odd idea has removable dividers, interchangeable parts, sensible packaging, and a place for everything.

The joke can be stupid.

The product still has to be good.

I care about fit, function, durability, finish, and whether something actually works the way I said it would. If I would be annoyed receiving it, I am not sending it to you.

You’re Dealing With an Actual Person

If you order something from MaxGallows, I see the order.

I make it.

I inspect it.

I pack it.

And if you send a message, you are talking to me.

Questions, unusual requests, ideas, problems, terrible jokes, or an oddly specific thing you wish existed are all welcome. Shoot me a message using the website’s chat feature. I actually read and respond to them.

Thanks for wandering into the basement.

Max
